The LAWCA provides this referal web-page for those who need to contact a rescue organization.
CAUTION: There are many individuals and groups that identify themselves as rescue organizations, but many "come and go", unfulfilled. And, there are many remaining that have good intentions, but are unable to do what people expect of a rescue organization. Even the better run rescue operations are often at or near capacity, and may not be able to immediately take-in another animal.
However, there are networks of individuals and groups who foster animals for rescues and public shelters. If the rescue cannot immediately accept an animal from you, they may be able to at least arrange for another rescue to take the animal, or to have the animal placed in foster care.
There are dog rescues that specialize in particular breeds of dogs. And there are cat rescues, feret rescues, bird rescues, etc.. Some of these can be found on the Internet through google.com.
Rescues and shelters in the northern part of the country are not so heavily burdened with the overwhelming numbers of rescued animals as occur in the warmer climates of the southern states. Many southern rescued animals have benefitted from organized transports that bring them north for adoption.
Please help The LAWCA by providing us with rescue contact information for this list.
If you are an active rescue, or if you know of an active rescue, that we should include in our list; please let us know about it by e-mailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
